How to: Install or replace a Windows 95 keyboard.
Solution:
Save work, exit program, turn off computer. Unplug keyboard connector, insert new keyboard connector into socket, turn computer on, and restart Windows 95.
1) Save your work and exit any open program(s).
2) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
3) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
4) Double-click the 'Add New Hardware' icon. (The 'Add New Hardware Wizard' dialog box appears.)

5) Click 'Next'.
NOTE: Windows 95 will search for any new hardware that has been installed on the computer. Follow the on-screen instructions. If the keyboard that is being installed is a Plug and Play type, Windows 95 will detect it and automatically load the required driver without any further user intervention.
6) To have Windows 95 search for the new keyboard, select the 'Yes' radio button, click 'Next', and follow the on-screen instructions. If this step is executed, then skip to step 8).

NOTE: It may take a few minutes for Windows to completely search the system and recognize any new hardware that has been installed. Windows 95 will display a bar to indicate the progress of the search. If the progress bar stops moving for a long period of time, it may be necessary to restart the computer.
7) (Optional) If the keyboard being installed is a legacy keyboard, select the 'No' radio button and click 'Next'.
NOTE: The 'Add New Hardware Wizard' will display a 'Hardware types' list box.
8) Select 'Keyboard' from the 'Hardware types' list box and click 'Next'.

9) Do one of the following:
a) Select the keyboard manufacturer/model from the 'Models' list box.
NOTE: If the particular manufacturer/model is not listed, select 'Standard 101- or 102-key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard' from the 'Models' list box.
b) Use the manufacturer-supplied driver diskette:
1] Click 'Have Disk'. (The 'Install From Disk' dialog box appears.)

2] Insert the manufacturer-supplied diskette in the diskette drive (usually drive A:).
3] Type the letter of the drive the diskette is in and the command to start the installation program.
NOTE: Consult the documentation that came with the keyboard for the correct installation command.
10) Click 'OK'.
11) Click 'Close' to return to the desktop.
NOTE: It is recommended that a Windows 95-compatible driver be installed. Contact the keyboard manufacturer for the latest driver.
